About this Add Page Numbers tool

Page numbers make long documents easier to read, print, discuss and reference, and many courts, universities and tender processes require them. Merged PDFs in particular often end up with no numbering, or numbering that restarts in every section.

This tool adds clean, consistent numbers to every page. Put them at the top or bottom, left, centre or right; use formats like “Page 3 of 12”; start from any number; and skip the cover page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I number pages in a PDF?

Choose your PDF, pick a position and format, and click Add page numbers.

Can I start numbering from page 2?

Yes. Tick “Skip the first page” so the cover has no number, and counting starts on page 2.

Can I start at a number other than 1?

Yes. Enter any starting number, which is useful when a document continues from another.

Will numbers cover my content?

Numbers are placed in the page margin, about 1 cm from the edge. If your document has content right up to the edge, choose a different position.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser.
