About this PDF to Text tool
Copying text from a PDF viewer often breaks lines in odd places, mixes up columns or misses pages. This tool reads the text on every page in reading order and gives you clean plain text, either with the original line breaks or joined into proper paragraphs.
The result appears in a box where you can copy it with one click, and you can download it as a UTF-8 .txt file that opens anywhere. Optional page markers show where each page starts.

Frequently asked questions
Why is no text extracted from my PDF?
Your PDF is probably scanned, meaning each page is a picture. Pictures contain no text characters, so OCR is needed. The tool shows a warning when this happens.
Does it work with non-English text?
Yes. Any language stored as text in the PDF is extracted, including accents, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hindi and Chinese. The .txt file uses UTF-8 encoding.
Can I extract text from a password-protected PDF?
Remove the password first, then extract the text from the unprotected copy.
Is there a page limit?
No fixed limit. Very long documents may take a little longer on slower devices.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
