About this RAR to ZIP tool

RAR archives are common for downloads, but opening them usually requires extra software, and many systems, including Windows Explorer on older versions, macOS Finder and most phones, can only open ZIP files natively. This converter extracts everything from your RAR file and repacks it as a standard ZIP that opens with a double-click on any device.

The extraction engine runs in your browser using WebAssembly, so your archive is never uploaded. Folder structure and file names are preserved.

How to use RAR to ZIP

  1. Choose or drop your .rar file.
  2. Wait a moment while the files are extracted and repacked.
  3. Check the list of files that were found inside.
  4. Download the new .zip file.

Limitations

Multi-part archives (for example file.part1.rar, file.part2.rar) and password-protected RAR files cannot be opened in a web browser. For those, use 7-Zip (Windows), Keka (Mac) or WinRAR. Very large archives (several GB) need a device with plenty of memory.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a RAR file without WinRAR?

Convert it to ZIP here. ZIP files open natively in Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.

Can I convert a password-protected RAR?

Not at the moment. The RAR decryption method cannot run inside a web browser, so the tool will tell you when an archive is encrypted. Use 7-Zip, Keka or WinRAR for those files.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The archive is opened and repacked entirely on your device.

Is there a size limit?

There is no fixed limit, but your device needs enough memory to hold the extracted files. Archives up to around 1 GB work well on most computers.

Can I convert ZIP to RAR?

Creating RAR files requires licensed software from the RAR developers, so no free online tool can do it legitimately. ZIP is more widely supported anyway.
