About this Word Counter tool

Essays, assignments, cover letters, social media posts and meta descriptions all have word or character limits. Paste or type your text and every number updates instantly: words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and lines.

Reading time is estimated at 238 words per minute (the average adult silent reading speed) and speaking time at 150 words per minute, which is useful for speeches and presentations. The keyword list shows which words you use most, ignoring common words like “the” and “and”.
