How to make a GIF from a video
GIFs play automatically and loop everywhere: in emails, slide decks, documentation, forums and chat apps that don't autoplay video. The downside is size, so the right settings matter.

Open Video to GIF →Steps
- Open Video to GIF and choose your video.
- Play to the moment you want and press Use current position.
- Pick a length: 3–5 seconds is ideal.
- Choose width and smoothness, then click Make GIF.
Settings that keep GIFs small
- Width 480 px is plenty for chats and documents; use 320 px for email.
- 12 fps looks smooth for most clips; 8 fps is fine for screen recordings.
- Short is sweet: doubling the length doubles the size.
As a rule of thumb, a 5-second, 480 px, 12 fps GIF is 1–3 MB depending on how much moves in the picture.
Prepare the clip first
Need to fix orientation? Use Rotate Video first. For a still image instead of animation, Video to JPG saves individual frames.
